March 31, 2010 - Residents in Westbrook concerned over potential chemical contamination of groundwater near the Pike Industries Spring Street quarry met with environmental officials Wednesday night. An ongoing debate centers around neighboring companies -- including Idexx -- and concerns noise and safety concerns. Nearby business owners said they want the city to rezone the area, which Pike said would force it out of the city.
Most recently, Westbrook's mayor created a steering committee to reach a compromise agreement with people concerned about the quarry after recently learning of possible exposure to a toxic chemical.
