Residents near contamination site in Danbury, CT shouldn't have to pay

July 23, 2008 -

The contaminated fill, also known as "historic urban rubble," contains unacceptable levels of lead, arsenic, mercury and other chemicals. The fill also contains bits of brick, asphalt, metal and glass.

By all accounts, the fill is only dangerous if it's ingested. But the city has gone to great lengths to do right by the children who will go to the new Roberts Avenue School when construction is finished.

The city should extend the same courtesy to the 22 homeowners whose property, according to state law, it must test.
