August 6, 2009 - As it stands now, Oregon Statute 465 does not give victims of soil or groundwater contamination the right to seek reimbursement for litigation costs if they prevail in court.
With the law the way it is, Debbie said, you’re victimized by the polluters – and “you’re basically just revictimized by the state.”

I hope I'm wrong in my feeling that the Schmidt's property was used as a dumpsite and that the contamination is throughout the property next to the Mangold family. Chemicals could have easily been dumped in the ground while the Schmidts ran their garbage business during the 1960s, a time of few government regulations on waste disposal. I remain concerned about the Mangold family. They may have resolved their claims but chemicals could still be buried beneath the yard next door.
